Hidden in Plain Sight: Ted Booth on changing the world by looking outside of design

Ted Booth and others will dig deep into where and how design lives in our great “undesigned” world during a talk at AIGA-NY.

Ted Booth, Director of Interaction Design, will join AIGA-NY for an event on May 18th that will take a deeper look at the undervalued and unnoticed design in the things we use in everyday life—and how as designers we can look outside traditional notions of design for inspiration and meaning in the things we create.

From the AIGA-NY event description:

You walk by it, you touch it, you read it, and it changes you a bit every day. Its everywhere! Design is not just what ends up in awards lists or on blogs, and arguably the most powerful and influential design is the great “undesigned” world. Here, we investigate, honor, praise and wonder at those designers who change our lives every day. Whether its bike lanes, electricity bills, or common everyday parts of our lives that we don’t give a second thought to, design outside of “design” is where change is happening on the largest scale. Hear from three presenters on changing the world by looking outside of design. Presenters include Margaret Newman, Chief of Staff of the New York City Department of Transportation, Paul Carlos and Urshula Barbour co-founders of Pure+Applied, and Ted Booth of Smart Design.
