OXO Good Grips Pruning Tools:
Comfortable hands have green thumbs
OXO wanted to extend their gardening line and develop products that would reflect the emotional attachment that most gardeners have to their favorite tools—ones that make nurturing their gardens more rewarding. Most gardening tools are heavy, clunky, and difficult to operate. Our task was to create high-quality and high-performing tools, but to solve some of the most problematic comfort and control issues for gardening’s most avid users—women and retirees.
After time spent with a variety of gardening enthusiasts, including professional gardeners, the design team conducted a hand study to understand the pressure points on existing pruning tools. OXO’s new Pruning Tools are comfortable, balanced, and lightweight for increased control and accuracy. They have superior steel blades and durable construction. But most importantly, they allow those with less strength or smaller hands to operate the tools with ease and less strain. Thoughtful features include softly curved, rotating handles on the Hedge Shears that provide a cushioned, friction-less grip that prevents blisters during the repetitive task of trimming hedges. The Hand Pruners have two different open settings that enable small or large hands to have more control of the tool and to use less effort in making cuts. Both tools reflect the fundamental principles of most gardeners – simple honest work, and a natural, emotional connection to the earth.
Recently launched, the OXO Good Grips Hand Pruner and Hedge Shears are anticipated to do well in the marketplace, especially during tougher economic times when people are opting for DIY yard work and gardening.
